SSE Renewables buys 100-MW BESS project in N Ireland

UK-based SSE Renewables has purchased a 100 MW/200 MWh battery energy storage system (BESS) project named Derrymeen BESS in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland, from Heron Energy, part of construction and property firm Heron Group. This project, which is still pending final investment decision, would mark SSE Renewables' first battery storage initiative in Northern Ireland and is poised to be the region's largest BESS. Additional battery projects are underway in both the Republic of Ireland and England.
