US deploys 12 GW of utility-scale solar in H1

According to the US Department of Energy’s EIA, the United States connected 20.2 GW (AC) of utility-scale power plants to the grid during the first half of 2024. Florida and Texas led the nation in utility-scale solar development, with notable projects including the Gemini Solar facility in Nevada and the Lumina Solar Project in Texas. Energy storage accounted for about 4.2 GW of the new capacity. Fossil fuel retirements exceeded new fossil capacity deployments. The EIA forecasts an additional 42.6 GW from new capacity deployments in the second half of the year, including significant solar and energy storage additions.
