Renewables met 53% of Portugal's power demand in July

Portugal's national grid operator REN announced that renewable energy plants covered 53% of the country's electricity consumption in July. Solar power accounted for a record high of 15%, followed by wind power at 18%, hydropower at 14%, and biomass at 6%. Non-renewable sources covered 9%, while 38% was imported energy. Overall electricity consumption increased by 3.6%, with renewables meeting 78% of the nation's power needs during the first seven months of the year.
